58001
The first Class 58, represented with its distinctive early narrow exhaust silencer, original body details and as-built Railfreight appearance.
A completely new OO gauge model of British Rail’s distinctive heavy freight locomotive, developed from the ground up to represent the many mechanical, body and livery variations found across the Class 58 fleet.
On 10 June 2026, Accurascale announced its first OO gauge Class 58 locomotive, affectionately introduced as the “AccuraBone”.
The model had already been in development for more than three years and has been designed entirely from scratch. Rather than producing one generic body for every locomotive, Accurascale has developed extensive tooling to reproduce the numerous differences that appeared throughout the fleet’s construction, modification and operational history.
The first production run follows the Class 58 story from the original Railfreight Red Stripe period through the Trainload Coal and Mainline years, into EWS ownership and modern preservation. It includes both first- and last-in-class special editions, alongside a model of preserved and operational locomotive 58023 “Leicester Depot”.
Built around the prototype: the Class 58’s unusual narrow engine-room body and full-width cabs require considerably more tooling than a conventional British-outline diesel model. Accurascale has therefore created a range of interchangeable components to reproduce individual locomotives and different operating periods accurately.
Accurascale’s Class 58 has been designed to capture more than the general outline of the locomotive. The model includes the significant construction and modification differences that developed across the fleet, including bogie designs, exhaust silencers, cab details, cooler groups and body-side arrangements.
The following images show the development samples and decorated model artwork. All images are hosted locally on the Class 58 Locomotive Group website and are reproduced with permission from Accurascale.
The first production run covers the principal identities carried by the Class 58 from its introduction through to the current preservation era.
Eight locomotive identities have been announced, each selected to demonstrate a different operating period, tooling combination or important chapter in the history of the class.

A later-build locomotive featuring CP3A bogies and the distinctive experimental exhaust arrangement unique to 58040.
“Ironbridge Power Station” in Triple Grey Coal Sector condition, representing one of the later members of the fleet.
The late-build “Asfordby Mine”, carrying Mainline Aircraft Blue and incorporating the later Class 58 body and bogie features.
The final Class 58 and final diesel locomotive built by British Rail, represented in its later EWS condition as “Toton Traction Depot”.
The first production run is scheduled to arrive during the fourth quarter of 2027. The range is being offered directly by Accurascale, with DC/DCC-ready and DCC sound-fitted versions available for pre-order.
